Yes, there was a band from the 1970s named New England and a fairly popular local band named Toronto in the early 80s.

This was probably Toronto's biggest song:

Wow, blast from the past there....Holly Woods and Sheron Alton were pretty popular among the male teenage rock fan demographic at the time.

70s were chock full of location named bands. In addition to the above a few more, bit more obscure rock and roll outfits. Could be classified as one hit or none hit wonders:

As we moved into the 80s, the aim apparently went higher, but I could never quite get into the continent bands (Asia, Europe) like their city/state counterparts.

No, your post was fine. I was short and flippant in response mostly because I was on a deadline.

I totally agree with you on this. Popularity generally has nothing to do with quality, and it's perfectly reasonable to dislike something that happens to be popular.

I have no qualms with someone disliking an artist's work, no matter how odd I might find the opinion. There's just a lot of hate on this thread for stuff that has nothing to do with the music. That's not just me assigning motive. The very first post on the thread basically says he'll turn off Guns 'n' Roses instantly because Axl's an asshole. Someone ripped on a 30+ year old one hit wonder because the singer is "fat and ugly." Same guy said he hates Madonna but likes her songs. I just find that strange.
