I have to marvel at the paranoid genius of connecting everything in the world to George Soros in two moves or less.

It's scary and laughable that shitheads would believe the images were a false flag orchestrated by the deep state. For some people, there really is no hope.

 

A. The opposition in Syria is ISIS. The best we can do is try to limit civilian casualties.

There was a time when there was an opposition that wasn't dominated by Islamists. Generals were defecting to the opposition, with military equipment.

We refused to provide weapons or assist them in other ways when it could have made a difference.

If a coalition of Arab/Muslim nations, along with/including Turkey wants to provide ground troops, and remain in the country after defeating both sides in the current war, then we can work to assist them, with air support, intelligence, training, etc. short of that, there's not much we can do.

And Turkey's unwillingness to do anything that might improve the standing of the Kurds in the region remains a complicating factor.

2. The previous administration coddled and enabled Iran. We did nothing to support a popular uprising against their brutal Islamic dictatorship. We did nothing when they held Americans hostage. We did nothing when they captured and humiliated American sailors, and violated the Geneva Conventions. We did nothing when they (likely) killed a former FBI agent, and refused to turn over his body to his family. We did nothing when they manufactured and exported IEDs into Iraq, that were used to kill our soldiers.

What we did do, was a deal -- that was "secret for a long time -- with them, which allows them to continue to build a nuclear program, and which will eventually ensure they have nuclear weapons. We paid them to agree to this deal. By linking the timing of the deal, and the payments, to the release of American hostages, we encouraged Iran and others to take and hold Americans as hostages. We upset our Sunni allies in the region, eroded trust with them, and disrupted regional hegemony, setting of an arms race that is escalating as we speak.

 

You have to love that a group who freely patronizes ALEC, CPAC and Koch brothers conferences annually whine about political influence from one dude. What the fuck do they think those groups are for?

Let's be clear, the previous administration backed of off regime change in Syria being a top priority.

The previous administration, by failing to enforce the "red line" it had drawn when Assad used chemical weapons against his own people encouraged him to use any method he deemed necessary.

The previous administration "watched" as ISIS sprung up, and did nothing about it, because they thought it would be a thorn is Assad's side.

The previous administration invited Russia into Syria, tasking them with removing chemical weapons from the country. This was a result of Kerry putting his foot in his mouth. Kerry then proclaimed the Russian cooperation a success, saying they had accomplished the task.

The previous administration did nothing to ground the Syrian air force.

And, all the while, when Obama sat back, he was lauded by the media, and the left in American. Obama was calm and patient. Thank God we didn't have a reckless cowboy in office, who would get us into another entanglement in the Middle East. Obama was playing three dimensional chess, while others were playing checkers.

Obama didn't see every issue as black and white. He saw grays and nuance everywhere.

Fast forward to this week...

Assad uses chemical weapons. Immediately, Trump is both blamed for encouraging this, and for doing nothing in response. Where Obama was correct to employ patience, Trump was criticized for not rushing to respond.

Then, Trump does respond, and he's criticized for the scope of the response.

There's no good answers here -- in part because we did nothing when there was a chance to make a difference. To pretend that Trump is a dunce because he doesn't have the answer to the Syrian problem is a fucking joke.

 

Is the paranoia any different than the left's paranoia with the Koch brothers -- who support gay marriage and prison reform, and donate to children's hospitals, much to the anger of the left.

And, now, it's the Mercers who are poised to become the new boogymen of the left.

 

Trump's tweets are the gifts that keep giving.

 

One big problem here has always been if you take out Assad, then what? Who do we prop up or who takes over?
