Depends on the needs of the team, but Nunez for Hendricks isn't bad. Like I said, my issue is Gomez. In terms of value, I think you gave up Hendricks and Forsythe for Nunez because I believe Gomez is going to be worthless.

First batter Hendricks faces this season -- Villar -- goes yard, followed by a single from Thames.

Not a great night by his standards, but Hendricks got the win, struck out six in six innings and had a WHIP of 1.00 for the night.

On the plus side, Jenmar Gomez got a win today. The downside being he did it by blowing another lead, this time on a three-run home run by Ryan Zimmerman.

By the way, Benoit and Neris combined for 2 2/3 shutout innings setting him up.

Yeah, I just dropped Gomez for Benoit in one league. I needed a closer and most were gone, so I took Gomez hoping he could at least give me something, but yeah, he's just really bad. Would have preferred Neris, but he wasn't available.

Went 1-10-1 in one Yahoo league this week and 10-1-1 in another. Got smoked in my points league.

Not a lot offense on any of my teams to open the season. My best players in one league - Rizzo, Zobrist, Seager, Machado and Turner - went a combined 18-for-103 with 3HRs and 10 RBI. Somehow, I swept the hitting categories and won that matchup 10-1-1.

Too early to panic on slow starts by Wellington Castillo and Neil Walker? Yadier Molina and Sandy Leon are both available if I want to drop Castillo, and Cesar Hernandez could replace Walker.

I think it is too early to panic on Walker, though I don't thing there is a huge difference in value between him and Hernandez. Walker has more power. Hernandez will score more runs. He has speed, but he gets caught stealing far too often and that limits his steals. I'd stick with Walker for now.

I don't think Castillo is good enough to warrant patience. Molina doesn't offer much upside, but the floor is solid. Leon had a great spring and looked good at times last year. I keep reading that the success came out of nowhere and he wasn't a top prospect, but at some point, you have to take the risk that he can sustain the production. If you want to take the risky route, go with Leon. If you want something safe, Molina is your man.

I get the feeling. Russell Martin doesn't have a hit yet and I'm considering moving on, but it is only a bad week and he has been drawing walks. McCann, Leon and Wieters are all available, so I might make a move. I may go with two for a while because Turner just went on the DL and I have a shortstop on the bench to put in his place.

This is the league I've been in for 17 years. Never won the title. 3rd place is the best I've finished. So I get a little tingly when I'm atop the standings.

Only place to go is down from here although I think I might finally have the right make-up to make a real run for the title.

    Joaquin Benoit named Phillies' closer

Gomez out as closer for the Phillies. Joaquin Benoit gets the first shot at closing in his place. Mackanin claims it is because he doesn't want to put too much pressure on Neris, but I'm guessing he got a bit of pressure of his own from the front office. Benoit can build up some trade alue if he handles the job and they can keep Neris's value lower come arbitration time if they keep him from closing out games.

Benoit might be worth an add.

Yeah, I think they believe in Neris more, but are playing the money game with him knowing they won't compete this year. But if Benoit can get me some saves, I'll take it.

OOP, what's up with your boy Glasnow? Guy is lights out in Triple-A, but he can't get anyone out in the Show. Growing pains or Quadruple-A talent?

I think it is too early to start thinking he is a Quad A pitcher. That was his fifth major-league start. The talent is major-league caliber. The head? Perhaps not, or perhaps he just isn't ready yet.
