Saw a lot of the same stuff with Michael Vick. These guys made their decisions to be assholes. Plenty of guys in similar situations don't. A tragedy is when a guy who is actually using his gifts is struck down through no fault of his own, ala Payne Stewart or Roberto Clemente or Lyman Bostock.

Dave Dravecky and JR Richard are sports tragedies. Aaron Hernandez is a sports sociopath

I saw a post on Deadspin about how society failed Hernandez after his father's death. Utter bullshit. His brother turned out okay. The problem was Aaron was a sociopath. The media had no problem with him, he was always smiling in interviews. After he signed his extension, he made a $100k or so donation to Bob Kraft's charity. His public side was warm and kind, but otherwise he was a cold-hearted murderer. He was screwed up in the head.

Not being able to meet Trump finally sent him over the edge.

    Don’t Root for Suicide
Suicide is not a proper law enforcement strategy. It should not be a SOLUTION to anything, especially when the prisoner in question has loved ones that will be impacted for life by what happened. It was clearly a longshot, but there still could have been some good to come from Aaron Hernandez’s story, and it does no one any good to root for that potential to be snuffed out. Because when you reduce the worst of us down to mere animals, you become a bit more of an animal yourself.
Yeah, it's a damn shame he won't be around to lie to his daughter about killing those two guys.

BTW, it's instances like this when the Times' insistence on using "Mr." looks particularly out of place.
