It's an interesting book. Michael Shaara, who was known for Civil War fiction and won a Pulitzer Prize for The Killer Angels wrote it. They found the manuscript for For Love of the Game after he died and his son published it. I have mixed feelings about the book. It's a bit like candy. You get a sugar high from it and then you crash. I actually liked the movie better.

I like the candy analogy. I call it literary junk food. I certainly wouldn't present it as great writing, but I love it anyway. I can't understand liking the movie better, but to each his own.

Vin Scully is the best part of that movie.

The movie is meh-, itself, but Vin pushes it to somewhere between meh+ and great-.

I'm 49 and I've probably seen fewer than 100 movies in my life. Just not my form of entertainment. So the list of movies I haven't seen includes "most of them."

I've seen three of these -- "Spotlight," "Chicago" and "A Beautiful Mind" -- all in theatres. I walked out of "Slumdog Millionaire" about 15 minutes in.

Spotlight is the only Best Picture movie I've seen since 2007. I'll have to work on that.

I wish I hadn't seen Titanic. My girlfriend (now wife) asked me to go so what choice did I have.

Also, I have never watched Schindler's List. Tried one day when it came out on video, got about 15 minutes in and opted to turn it off and have a nice day instead.

Look, man, you need to see this. Make you a deal: I'll fucking watching Empire Strikes Back if you watch Willy Wonka.
