My then-wife and I saw "Titanic" in a midnight premiere showing in a jam packed theater.

As the ship drifted ominously toward the iceberg in the darkness, a bunch of teenage girls in the row ahead of us screamed, "oh no, they're going to hit it!!!"

    Hmmmm ... You think? :rolleyes::eek::rolleyes:

    I've never seen Pink Flamingoes.

Re: Titanic. Same experience - then wife made me see it. Afterwards, every time she heard the theme song on the airwaves, she'd start crying.

We separated later that year. Thanks Titanic.

As an aside, how does fucking James Cameron have two of the highest grossing and most critically acclaimed movies of all time?

Titanic and Avatar are both terrible.

Titanic is the cinematic equivalent of a Britney Spears song, and Avatar nothing more than a high-tech ripoff of a mediocre animated movie from 20 years earlier.

I've always thought one of the basic premises was so unrealistic. The team is being sold, and Chapel is being traded to the Giants after the season ends. For one thing, the trade deadline has long passed. For another, if there was a trade pending, the Tigers wouldn't be putting Chapel out there for fear he would get hurt.

It would have been better if they just told Chapel they were releasing him at the end of the season, and that thenGiants might be interested in him as a non-roster invitee in spring.

I liked Titanic. But I fully agree on Avatar. I kept waiting for a blue Mater to show up.

How have you never seen The Wizard of Oz?

OK, you got a deal. Although, full disclosure, at Easter with the in-laws all the children were watching the Johnny Depp remake and I was bullied into buying the DVD of the original on the spot via Amazon when I revealed I had never seen it. But I will watch it.

I don't know. I haven't dug my heels in against watching it or anything, just never have. I know it's weird.

Is "The Wizard of Oz" still on teevee with any frequency?

Doesn't seem like it to me.

As these went by, I thought of some more. Never seen the Johnny Depp "Willie Wonka" or either of the Alice in Wonderlands. No to Pink Flamingos and Eraserhead, The Artist, Crash.

I've seen every Best Picture winner in the last 50 years (thanks, whoever posted that list), and the last 20 or so, I saw in the theater. Definitely some losers on that list.

As for what I haven't seen: any Fast and the Furious, any of the Star Wars sequels post-1980s, any Star Trek movies, anything superhero/comic book related except for the Christopher Reeve Superman movies, the Michael Keaton and George Clooney Batman movies and Guardians of the Galaxy, any of the Freddy movies, Scream and other horror franchises. Just not my bag, baby.

I didn't like "For the Love of the Game" that much on its own rights, but I did like it as kind of an indirect prequel to "The Upside of Anger."

In "Anger," Costner plays an ex-superstar Tigers pitcher several years after retirement, now become a semi-boozy sports-talk radio co-host who gets involved with his MILF neighbor (Joan Allen) and her four daughters of HS and college age.

It's not supposed to be the same guy -- in "Anger" he's "Denny Davies" (loosely based on Denny McLain although nowhere near as much an asshole as the real life McLain) but they do use still pics from "FTLOTG" for his 'baseball career,' and it's really not too hard to imagine Billy Chapel taking the same career path -- he didnt really seem to have much definite lined up for his post-baseball career.

Actually, I always thought Costner should have done a sequel to Bull Durham in about 2005-2010, with Crash Davis now a well-traveled major league manager (with a good winning record but never a WS title) fighting for a pennant, and as a waiver wire acquisition late in the season he picks up the nearly-finished, post- Tommy John surgery, fireballer-now-junkballer and ground ball and control artist, 228-game career winner Nuke LaLoosh. Of course Annie Savoy would have been in the picture somewhere (my guess is as the one-time, but not current, Mrs. Crash).

The plotline would concern Crash trying to get a hot young fireball pitcher's career straightened out, and he brings in Nuke to serve as a "mentor," but Nuke is more interested in stretching out his own career another year or two than "holding the flavor of the month's dick."

Of course you'd have some season-deciding (pennant or World Series) game come down to the 9th inning, with Young Hotshot steaming along with a 3-hit shutout, 12Ks and a 2-0 lead, but then a walk and an error, and Crash goes to the bullpen ....

Tim Robbins has now aged way out of the role (plus I don't think he and Sarandon are doing movies together either), so it could never work now, but it could have been interesting.
