I'm already pretty smart. I was named one of the board's High-Level Thinkers, in case you didn't know.

What if you play music off Pandora or a Podcast you've stored up on the geopolitics of nuclear fusion? Are you still stupid then?

That's just patently false. There are many reasons to criticise the jury system, but anyone with jury trial experience can tell you that they are not "filled with the most out of touch people you can find."

This speaks to how insular we are allowed to be in our daily lives. Everything can be targeted. I can arrange my Google news feed to only include x, y and z. And so we can easily become the individual arbiters of what's news. I wouldn't say that makes you stupid in as much as it makes you ignorant of The Other. Some of the smartest people I know are also the most ignorant. Mostly because they think they know all they need to know, the interests they want to hear about, so to hell with everything else.

did you read the AH story I linked to? More than a handful of those jurors -- who all live in Boston -- had no idea who AH was or what crime he had committed. To me, that is out of touch.

You must also seek out news Boogie cares about.

Your entire premise on this thread is flawed. You think the jury should know about Aaron Hernandez, because, who the hell knows. It's actually better that some on the jury didn't know about Hernandez.

Your starting proposition is that a juror who lives in Boston and does not know about Aaron Hernandez prior conviction is "out of touch". As others have pointed out repeatedly above, that simply isn't the case.

But even if it was true that this particular jury was "out of touch", it would not justify your statement, which I highlighted, about the frequency with which that occurs. (Somewhere between rarely and never, in my experience). It's too small of a sample.

Do you understand the importance of having jurors, in a high profile case such as this, who did not follow the news of the defendant's prior case?

it is true that they're out of touch. You can disagree with me, and I respect your right to be wrong. As I stated, the second trial was a farce. They found people who seemed to have their head in the sand and were unaware of his past. Congrats to the defense.
