Glanville's a decent writer, but he didn't have much of a TV presence. He'll find work, though. A literate ex-player is a marketable commodity.

Remind me the deal with using highlights without a rights deal.

They could only use them for a couple of days or something?

Kentuckiana and Tobacco Road are different. Louisville, Kentucky, Indiana, Duke, North Carolina, Kansas and Syracuse would make my short list of schools and markets where interest in college basketball exceeds or at least equals interest in football, college or professional.
And that's only because those schools have either won a lot or they're in a market (Syracuse) where the pro and college football teams have traditionally been terrible. UCLA has won 11 NCAA titles and most fans didn't know who the Ball family was until March Madness this year. As someone who loves college basketball and has written about it and college football as a columnist, I can attest to the fact that college hoops just didn't interest a wide range of fans for 11 months out of the year. Stories get but a sliver of the clicks that college football stories do. Sucks, but it's true.

His work for the Times is pretty good.

Would it restrict him from writing for other publications?

Doug's an excellent writer. His NYT stuff must be freelance.

Add another soccer guy to the list, one with whom I have had the pleasure of sharing a pressbox.
