Trump hung a painting of Andrew Jackson in the Oval Office because people told him Jackson's campaign was like his. Plus Jackson was a famously feisty SOB.

You have the self-awareness of a cardboard box.

I wasn't talking about her. She's definitely an asshole, though.

He was "expressing admiration" for a personality trait that resulted in genocide.

I'm pretty sure the first renaming of a Jefferson-Jackson dinner was in the last year, and most of them haven't changed their name.

And, even if your time line is correct, would that be acceptable?

We've been distancing ourselves from that racist, genocidal President, that is the founder of our modern party for at least a decade!

The Democratic Party: Woke, and against racism and genocide since at least 2007.

I legitimately believe you'd be a better President than the guy currently in the Oval Office, even if I disagree with your politics. You're smart (he's not) and you would make a genuine effort to learn the job. He's too busy pining over how much easier his old life was while he's out on the golf course raking in taxpayer money

@doctorquant would definitely play more rounds of golf than Trump.

Yes he did. He said if Jackson was later he would have prevented the civil war. He goes on to claim Jackson wasn't happy with what he was seeing at the start, implying Jackson was alive in 1860. They were two different thoughts.

You need to get off this high horse with regard to the campus free speech bit, because you're making common cause with some people who have some pretty detestable ideas about what's right and how to go about effecting it.

Jackson fought in the Revolutionary War at the age of 13. He later served as a general during the War of 1812.

Trump got a draft deferment during the Vietnam War for dubious medical reasons and waited out the war partying in Manhattan night clubs.

Other than those things, though, the similarities between the two men are striking.

Sorry, YF. That not alone in his beliefs is whitewashing horse shit.

Plenty of people around the world and in North America believed slavery to be evil in the 1700s, but it was cost effective in the South. So...

The Trail of Tears was a simple land grab by Jackson, kicking out many Cherokee who lived just like the whites--in houses, learning English, going to school, farming.

Their crime was owning land that might have gold or something valuable in it.

People knew it was wrong. But, hey, they might make a buck.

He also said there's no reason why Israelis and Palestinians should still be fighting.
