    What?! Martin Van Buren founded the Democratic Party, propping up Jackson as the front man mostly because he filled out a suit (and military uniform) so well. Old Kinderhook pulled the strings.

    I say this as someone who wrote my college thesis on MVB, and who may or may not occasionally tweet as @MartyVanBuren, who hates him some A-Jax.

    His humanitarian efforts (Habitat for Humanity, election observer, etc.) have been much greater than anything he did as president, IMO.
