Albert Breer wants proof about the n-word at Fenway

You're hung up on it not being independently confirmed ... and that's your standard for confirmation?

 

Aren't all facts supposed to be independently confirmed? How would you confirm it?
I could have given more examples - the ones I gave were just easy ones.
Over the winter David Price said he'd had racist stuff said to him while warming up in the bullpen. The quote ran unconfirmed. A couple weeks later Shaughnessy said he had a conversation with a bullpen cop who said he'd heard similar stuff.
That's all I'm looking for. If Jones was getting racist stuff thrown his way in a half-empty ballpark and he could hear it, wouldn't the LF or RF have been able to? Or the guys in the bullpen?
The story needs to be written even if you can't confirm Jones' statement, but writing the story as it happening as 100 percent fact is irresponsible from a journalism perspective.

 

Was confirmed by fans too who were interviewed by Deadspin. What's the plateau for confirmation? Everyone short of pumpsie green chimed in with an apology. It happened.

 

Maybe they were Yankee fans.

And the owner and team president met with Jones today to talk about and denounce the racism. Was that a hoax?

Oh, for God's sake. The reason the Sox, the Mayor and everybody else assumed it happened was because it's happened there on a regular basis for at least 50 years. The burden of proof in this case is on Red Sox fans, not Adam Jones.

Yeah, they said all the other stuff and met personally with Jones to denounce racist behavior for no reason at all.
