That is one reason I trust the surgeon who performed my transplant. He told me not to do the other one until it is absolutely necessary.

The whole thing is a pain in the ass. Friend of mine from college went on to be come an ophthalmologist. When she learned about keratoconus, she called just to tell me she never wanted me for a patient because it can be a bitch to treat. If I remember correctly, there is a high rate of rejection with that surgery. My body tried to reject the new cornea three times, though eventually the medication got me through it.

I am dreading the process with insurance when I go back for the other eye, which is going to happen eventually.

I have never supported Chavez. So this is not an endorsement. But the reasons that leftists such as Hugo sadly endure is that his constituents were living lives of desperate poverty. In Venezuela you see empty shelves in the supermarket. But you do not see supermarkets in poor neighborhoods. Poor people can not afford the variety of goods that are sold in the supermarket so what they do they care if the shelves are empty. They also can not afford a taxi to carry their groceries back.

I base this on two life experiences. One, I wrote a paper on international retailing in college. I learned that a mom and pop guy working out of a storefront in a barrio will have a lower selling point than a supermarket because they have a lower cost structure. They are willing to live on a couple of hundred dollars a month because the alternative is starvation. Second. I lived in Caracas and know where the supermarkets were located.

Sounds like plenty of the poor ones will be dying.
