    Well, OOPy, you said it yourself: "Distinction." You can either write with distinction or be a lazy, bureaucratic hack.

    Write with distinction. "Affect" or "influence" are much more distinctive (and stylish) verbs than "impact."

    Not at all. I like writers who work hard to write with distinction.
