Blue Jeans and a Rosary is a pretty good country song by Kid Rock.

You're like the bizarro Cal Ripken Jr. of this board. Take a day off from sucking, skippy. Your comments might improve.

    (haha, of course they won't.)

Going on memory, but I think a guy who wrote one of the first hits drank himself out of the band before it made it big, then died shortly after.

Pretty much right. He was going to enter rehab, but shot himself.
He wrote "Hey Jealousy", "Found Out About You", "Hold Me Down," and "Lost Horizons."

I screwed up the link, but I got that from his Wikipedia page.

Yeah, Doug Hopkins. He wrote all the stuff people remember from the Gin Blossoms.

Steven Tyler of Aerosmith put out a country CD a couple years ago.

Fucking great song, no idea how some Nashville guy hasn't made a huge cover of this one. The Zep version is kind of country/rockabilly, with a terrific vocal from Plant (no stranger to rockabilly stuff) a great semi-distorted Page solo and killer boogie woogie piano from John Paul Jones.
