President Trump: The NEW one and only politics thread

So many thoughts this afternoon. ... I really suspect that James Comey may have been the closest thing to an honest man you could have had running the FBI (which I am naturally suspicious of). ... and the bastard never stood a chance between Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump. No matter how he handled the dishonesty / corruption that was her, and the bullshit / craziness that is him, we have created a government that destroys the people we should WANT pulling the levers of power.

We look like a banana republic right now. I thought a Trump presidency, while disastrous, would be funny. ... but this is just sad. The people speaking for him have been reduced to lying, then contradicting their own lies with new lies when it starts unraveling -- and doing it belligerently.

And. ... First Trump cluelessly gave a hint of a conflict of interest in the letter he made public (thinking it would work to his benefit!), by suggesting that he pressured the FBI director (who he could fire) to say he wasn't under investigation. Then in the interview with Lester Holt today, he said he explicitly ASKED if he was under investigation. At best that is a HUGE conflict of interest. At worst, it smacks of an attempt to obstruct justice.

Someone said they feel sorry for Sarah Sanders. I don't. Nothing is forcing her to stand there and display a lack of integrity. A White House Press secretary can be expected to stretch facts, stick to a party line, even bend the truth a little (while adhering to some measure of truth). ... but not lie, make up absolute bullshit on the fly and put THEIR reputation on the line. Someone with integrity wouldn't do it.
