Trillium Pot & Kettle, an oatmeal porter with cold brewed coffee. Excellent, although I like almost any beer with coffee. But pretty much anything Trillium is very good.

Although it's 5 o'clock somewhere, I'm not drinking anything right now.

That said, the increased traffic, canopy tents, and festive atmosphere along my town's main drag reminds me that tomorrow is Dark Lord Day. I don't have a ticket, but hopefully I can find a hook-up on the secondary market. I may enjoy some 2016 at home. I think I have two or three bottles left. One is for the Indianapolis 500 tailgate, though.

A couple years ago I stopped in the kiosk at around 8 or 9 p.m. the day after the release and they were selling the prior year's version for $20 a bottle. That was a good day. I can't imagine it happens anymore, though.

It's not a good beer. Not worth any effort, IMO. Went to a few DLD's back in the day (07-10), had a blast but it was just as the beer scene was really exploding and it was becoming a total shit-show. I went for the vibe, people and massive bottle shares. Got to try things I never expected to ever get the opportunity, and met some folks who are now friends for life. I'm sure if I gave it another shot, it would be fine but it's not my thing anymore. I'll stick with going to the Great Taste in August.

Do you not like Russian Imperial Stouts, or just this particular one?

I really like it, but (1) I love the style; and (2) I concede that the mystique is probably part of that.

I went once, probably 10 years ago or so. It was a fun atmosphere, but it wasn't the crazy hot ticket it is now. I don't even think we were able to buy bottles with whatever kind of ticket we had. We just got to drink them in the brewpub. They typically have it on tap there now in the days after.

A few months ago, the drink jockeys in Grand Central got shitcanned en masse bc a whole lot of them were allegedly buying nips on the cheap from liquor stores, selling their overpriced crap to commuters, then replenishing their official stock with the discounted stuff. So if a nip cost $1 at a liquor store, they were selling it for $3 -- but the official count wasn't going down. Nice hustle, till they got busted. There's a small store off the main concourse that sells a wide range of microbrews and that place is now doing cash money business. Lines every day. I've been enjoying the Molotov Light from the Evil Brewing Company, a 16 oz beast with 8.5 percent alcohol. Greases the wheels nicely on my 90 minute commute home.

While RIS is not my go-to style, I do enjoy many of them. I find DL to be far too sweet, it's a syrupy molasses mess (compare, for example, Surly Darkness which is the same style but has great balance between malt, hop and other flavor profiles typical of big RIS).

The last year I went was the first year with tickets required (2010). There had to be more than 15K on hand (first time I went in 07 there may have been 500ish). And 3F was grossly unprepared for the crowds. Just became too much hassle for my old ass. Plus Mrs. Fly couldn't use any porta-potties after noon since they were all overflowing (guys can find anywhere to take a leak, not so easy for the ladies). That kind of ended our fun.

My brother found some 10 percent, 24-ounce monstrosity-in-a-can for like $1.99 in the St. Louis area a few weeks ago.

On the way to a funeral. [/crossthread]
