But just do a case by case assessment of the teams you mentioned and whether he would actually be a good fit with them for what they are trying to do. A team with a QB need is by definition a team in turmoil. So unless he is seen as a market improvement, why introduce his dynamic to the team?

The guy is unemployed for a simple business reason: His potential is not worth the associated baggage. That's it. It's no grand conspiracy. For fuck's sake, Michael Vick went to prison, came out and got a starting gig with the Eagles. Why? Because the talent was still there.

Kaepernick also got benched for Gabbert after completing 1 pass and throwing for 4 yards against an awful Bears defense.

    OK...

The Jets? He's light years ahead of anyone on the roster. No excuse for them not to call. He should be their starter right now.

49ers? Better than any other option, and voted by the players as the most inspirational guy on the team last year. They won't do it because management has been trashing him, which is their standard M.O.

Bears? He's better than Glennon and Trubisky isn't ready. Obviously the Glennon signing means he won't be there, but the Glennon signing was a joke.

Browns? Another no-brainer. Their QB spot is a garbage fire and Kizer isn't close to ready. He'd be an instant starter there.

Texans? Best option they have right now, unless they're looking to ruin Watson's career. He'd be a decent option as a starter on essentially a one-year deal.

Rams? He'd be their best QB but they have to start Goff this season. They get a pass.

Bottom line: the "baggage" is bullshit. He is provably a better option than guys who are getting signed (and worth noting -- I was only talking about starters, and there are countless backups who aren't as good as Kaepernick). No one wants to sign the guy who kneeled for the anthem.

It would be an awesome Belichick move if somebody's actually good starter gets hurt in preseason, he trades them Garappolo for a king's ransom, then signs Kaepernick.

I'll just reiterate my belief that he is not a marked improvement over the current QB situations in those places -- places that are already in turmoil bc they don't have good QBs. In a vacuum, yes, he's an improvement over those current guys. So if this were Madden, I'd plug him in. But they're all doing cost-benefit analysis, and they decided he's not worth it -- as a starter or a backup. Ya don't see people bitching about Jay Cutler not getting any interest. Why is that?
