There needs to be and always will be a conservative party in America. That instinct will always be present in many people and that philosophy held in tension with liberalism is what makes representative democracies work.

But that party will need to be built from the ashes of the Republicans. The GOP is too rotten to salvage, shot through with cynical authoritarians and bigots, closeted and otherwise. They preach piety and patriotism but don't give a damn about either, just power and crushing their enemies. Left unchecked, they will lead to another civil war or conquest by a foreign power before the end of the century, possibly way sooner.

Does anyone remember what a normal week felt like?

Once you stop hyperventilating about every single thing that happens --- 99.7 percent of which will have little effect on our lives anyway --- it's amazing how "normal" the weeks become. :)

"They started burning through their credibility on Inauguration Day," Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) told POLITICO. "But they devoured it during the Comey story, so now their attempts to push back are basically being ignored, and rightly so."

Priebus will be the next fired. I'd bet a case of beer on it.

My money is on Spicer. I don't think the Man Baby likes having his number one mouthpiece made a fool on late night teevee all of the time.

Hey Schatz: Pretty much every single goddamn thing anybody connected with the Fucko Administration has uttered for about three years has been complete absolute bullshit; you think the Comey thing was anything unusual?
