Strikeouts are killing baseball

A strictly enforced 20-second pitch count, a strict limitation on between-pitch fucking-around by hitters, and an automatic 3-0 count on the first batter faced by any pitchers brought in mid-inning, would speed the whole deal up considerably.

Scattering hits is always a good thing. Just ask Brett Anderson. Or your hero, Jake Arrieta.

Back in the days of Reuschel, the Cubs had the best of both worlds when he was on the mound. He could eat up innings, but they also could drop the hammer with Dick Tidrow and Bruce Sutter in relief.

You play to get the W. The starter is Plan A, but then you have contingency plans in reserve.

I'd say a 3-0 count is a little harsh, but a 1-0 count might work.

It's his attempt at being funny. You've missed some beauties.

"Scattering hits" is the dumbest phrase in the sports writing lexicon.

It means "not giving up many hits."

Yes, I agree that's an effective way to pitch. I also agree that going 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a pair of home runs is an effective way to hit.

I have no sam hell clue what you are advocating. Ask Grady Little what a great idea it is to keep a pitcher out there with diminished stuff.

But the pitcher could give up many hits, as long as they were scattered. I think Geoff Zahn used to scatter hits.

He had the contingency plan ready, though. The relief pitcher was warmed up. He just chose poorly and drank from the wrong grail.

Geoff Zahn won quite a few games in a short time. How dumb was he?

You know what's a really good strategy if you're a pitcher? Missing bats.

Geoff Zahn. Won 14 games in 1980. Scattered 273 hits and 66 walks.
