Most overrated bands/performers

I suppose I can see that. PJ suffers from Eddie Vedder having lived all these years. No mystique.

I've always had the impression that Pearl Jam was popular and critically respected.
That is why I'd say they are over-rated.

Stuff like Crue and the rest of that pop/glam/hair metal genre was never critically liked, but it was very popular in its time and now seems to be enjoying a nonsensical resurgence of nostalgic popularity.

I'd say the Black Keys are over-rated. I like them, but their popular and critical appeal seems to outpace the quality of their work.

Good call on The Black Keys.

I love Wilco, but they are overrated in a very specific way: Son Volt's body of work is superior.

I love Wilco and Son Volt. The former is just more well known, but both are good.

About that ... Yes, Wilco can do no wrong in many eyes since they became indie darlings with the release of YHF (which is nowhere near as good as half their albums). However, I really like a lot of their work from Being There at least through Wilco (I'm not as familiar with the last two albums). Now, Trace is arguably the best album of the '90s (certainly the best of its genre), but as much as I want to, I just cannot get into ANY of the stuff Farrar and the gang have put out since.

I've seen both in concert. Wilco was exponentially superior and more enjoyable.

I've never seen either perform live other than on video.
Just going based on studio performances, mainly. I dig both.
Admittedly, I listen to more Wilco, though.

I think you could take the 10-12 best songs since "Trace" ("Medicine Hat," "Jukebox of Steel," "Straightface," "Six String Belief," etc.) and it rivals "Trace."

So do I. Even though if I had to listen to one album and only one album for the rest of my life, it would be Trace.

I'm probably disqualified because I probably listen to more tracks off 'AM' than any other Wilco album.
I haven't really listened to 'Schmilco' yet.

I probably listen to tracks off Being There three times more than any of their other albums. Really like Summerteeth, A Ghost is Born and Wilco as well.

Went to see Wilco at Central Park on a whim (last-minute invitation) a few years ago. Could 't name a single song, but I loved the show.
