Best thing would be if Jacobs swears out complaint and cops go perp walk Gianforte when he goes to the polls for the obligatory "Candidate X votes early" video. But I'd be surprised if the cops do a thing.

Two-thirds of the vote in this election have already been cast. Let's assume Gianforte wins (both parties already do). He will have a criminal complaint sworn against him. He will be the defendant in a major civil suit. Every day he's in Washington, he'll be surrounded by hordes of reporters hoping he loses his shit again, while other hordes go through his life looking to ruin what's left of it. And best of all, he has to run again in 2018.

 

All this does is make him more popular with the Trumpanzees.

 

Would reporters work as hard at digging for the truth if they like the politician?

 

Yes, they would. You ever work in journalism? I've written stories that were bad for people I liked personally and so has everyone else I've ever known in the business. As for the Trumpanzees referred to by three bags, if they won't respect the Constitution, then they're the enemies of our country and deserve to be treated accordingly.
