I don't support nonviolence.

 

"Terribleness" is not a meaningful litmus test for this, imo.

Lots of terrible, awful, immoral ideas deserve the right to a place at the table.

Naziism is a known exploitable bug in western culture and we have a specific example of what happens when it is allowed to spread, and that end result is unacceptable.

Just like words can be speech, i.e. the communication of ideas, and some words can be assault, so can some political ideas be assault on their face.

 

I have discovered a truly marvelous demonstration of this proposition that this text box is too small to contain.

So would I. I just think we're well past the point that grand bargain would work. There was a point where I thought the center could pull this off and start to get stuff done. We're probably a decade or more past that point.

How many people have died as a direct result of Communism? Tens, maybe hundreds, of millions. Yet if I argued that advocating for communism, or some kindred-spirits version of socialism, is an assault that might justifiably be met with violence, you (and plenty of others) would think me crazy.

It's about a millimeter down a miles-long slippery slope from your position to the position that we'd be justified in locking up Muslims who are insufficiently vehement in their denunciations of Islamic terrorism.
