So, against my better judgment, I will explain why I think it's dumb.

You were getting into a semantic debate over your use of "generations" in describing the Andrettis in America, as if that suggests Sato is closer to the events of WW2 than Marco simply because one family moved after the war and the other didn't. In the big picture I think that's an utterly pointless distinction and I felt absolutely no desire to pursue it any further. If you think it's noteworthy, fine. I don't, and don't want to go round and round arguing it.

As for the troll thing -- I didn't think or imply you were trolling. I just know you as a guy who will debate something like this forever, and I'm not going to do that. Nothing personal. I will say, though, that if you are concerned about coming across as a troll, using this post to take yet another shot at Jones is an odd move to make.

Fuck him. He took a shot at me on Lugnuts' thread. I didn't see anyone raising a problem with that. He's still worshipped here.

But maybe he'll retweet you now.

Honestly, man, I hope at some point you can look back and understand how fucking weird stuff like this is.

And maybe you'll see how fucking weird it is for a site to hero worship an asshole who outs and bullies the members.

    Some early takeaways.

"The one thing I want to tackle head on is the charge that I'm a racist."

"It was not based in racism. It was based in nations, Japan and Germany."

"I don't think it was a fireable offense in the context of my background and all of that."

Addressing this point, again, I think that the Tweet was stupid, precisely because of what you are explaining here. I don't think it was necessarily racist, however. My point about the Andrettis being here for generations is that most people would think of them as Americans first, by now, and of Italian heritage second or not at all. Marco is from the United States. Michael is from the United States. Mario has been a United States citizen for 60 years. Andretti Autosport is based in Indianapolis.

Sato is a Japanese national. They show his name on the scroll, there's a Japanese flag next to it. He waved a Japanese flag upon winning the race.

My point isn't that it is fair to tie Sato to the events of WWII, any more than it is fair to tie the Andrettis to them. My point is that there are plenty of reasons why Frei or anyone else would legitimately think of Sato as Japanese and the Andrettis as American that don't have anything to do with race.

I think that it is unfair to write this off as some semantic, pedantic point I'm making here.

Guess that puts to rest the question if it was a mutual parting.

In a place where I can't listen, but interested if he addresses his "fuck you" type of apology. The more I think about this, the more I think that was made the whole episode a fireable offense.

It was a fireable offense. He was fired for it.

What he thinks of whether it should been is immaterial unless he's ready to turn heel and go on Fox News and put The Denver Post on trial.
