Everything Trump seems to do is out of spite and to throw red meat to his cult followers.

Nobody will talk about Russia for a news cycle. Mission accomplished!

Until tomorrow, when more news will break about Russia.

Nobody because that's fucking stupid.

 

"Believe me" is such an obvious tell.

 

Right. It's not the kind of smart, thoughtful take like how America is no longer leader of the free world because we withdrew from a climate treaty.

 

One way or another, Trump will eventually be out of office. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Then perhaps a rational, non-asshole adult can resume leading the country.

 

... that we'd never actually entered into.

America is no longer leader of the free world because of a combination of factors, this climate treaty among them.

 

Then why did all the smart people wait until today to inform the world?

 

My take on Comey was that he didn't see enough to prosecute her on and said so. She got lucky, that could have easily broken the other way. Instead of being graceful and taking a break that went her way, she started yammering about how the FBI had cleared her. Not seeing enough clear evidence to prosecute is not equal to being cleared, and Hillary and her surrogates saying that over and over had to piss off the conservative side of the FBI. I bet it pissed off Comey as well.

Then came Bill on the plane with Lynch, which at a minimum looked bad. The letter that we now know was a Russian fake came in, and I bet that the word got around as to what it contained. Comey pretty much *had* to reopen the email investigation for fear that the agents in the New York office who were in bed with Giuliani were going to rebel and start all sorts of nonsense. He reopened it so close to the election that it was very likely the blow that made the difference. Yes, she ran a shitty campaign and neglected to tend to her onions in traditional Dem strongholds, but IMHO reopening the investigation was the death blow. She had a pretty fair chance to win without that.

So yes, Dems were pissy about Comey - but bitching that he did something that they saw as politically motivated is simply not on the same plane as the President firing the FBI Director who is investigating his campaign because he won't obey the President and kill the investigation. That's a false equivalency of the highest order.
