Brad Stevens left Butler for the Celtics at the end of June a few years ago.

Dean Smith retired in October. I think that was always understood as a move to tie the university's hands on his replacement.

Why? For all its warts, Indiana is still the better basketball job.

Because Ohio State is the job he always wanted.

This is some high-level cluelessness -- a brilliant combination of not reading the linked article (no surprise there) and lacking even a speck of knowledge of the program in the last 4-5 years. Excellent work.

No, I think the issue here is health rather than scandal. Matta has serious spinal and back problems that I've heard are more severe than he and OSU have let on. I suspect that explains the odd June timing more than anything.

OSU has been in a lull the last few years, but most top programs do that once a decade or so, and one big time recruit would fix that.

I hadn't gotten the idea Matta was in much (or really any) hot water performance-wise. Now if he went 9-22 a season or two in a row, he'd be there.
