It sounds like a great move. You'll be glad you made it. And pretty soon, you won't even see it as an MLB writer changing to preps, because that won't matter anymore. It's just a change, and a different season in life, that's all. That perspective, and being able to practice law at the level/pace that you choose is what will make it all worth it.

Shitting away a decade of my life in journalism with nothing to show for it in the end beat that mindset out of me permanently.

This guy who had the same dissertation chair as me, he'd been very successful in business (Chair/CEO of a Fortune 500 firm) prior to going back to pursue his PhD. One day we were chatting and I mentioned having taken my oldest to school that morning. He got really quiet for a few seconds, then said "You know, I never once got to do that."

Last night Whitman Jr. came up to bat with the score tied and the winning run on second base in the bottom of the last inning. Mrs. Whitman was a nervous wreck. I told her, "Are you kidding me? We are watching our son with a chance to win a game. Either way, he's going to be excited to get root beer after the game." He struck out, which was unfortunate, because he had been on a bit of a streak, but I got to see it.

My dad missed my only Little League home run because he was working the night shift, and he was the one who put in all the hours and hours and hours of endless practice.

You'll probably get more romps in the sack, too.

Must be cool to also know it'll be father, mother, child in the same happy house.

I took a pay cut for my current job (not in sports, for the first time in 20 years) and it's worth every penny with the extra family time. Plus for the first time in our marriage, the wife has more evenings away and road trips, which I use as bargaining chips for golf because ...

... eh, not so much. I have an easier time asking to play golf.

Either way you're in the bunker.
