I Really Want To Do This Someday

Slightly different spin on the camping thread. Monday morning next week the Texas 200 sailboat "race" will begin in Port Mansfield, TX. They'll go 5 days up the ICW, finishing with a waterside shrimp boil on Magnolia Beach on Friday. Right now, a little over 100 participants (in 63 boats) are signed up.

Typically it's mostly downwind, in pretty shallow water. Some pretty neat places to camp along the way, though.

    Here's roughly the route ...

There's a Facebook group with dozens of participants who're talking all sorts of crazy-ass (and crazy small) boats. My 17-footer (with a cabin) would be one of the bigger boats.

There are other such events that look, perhaps, even more inviting. There's one along the Florida panhandle (the Florida 120) and one along the Mississippi coast (the Mississippi 110) that seem to promise a bit prettier sailing. I'm thinking next year I'm gonna do one or more of these.

Never boiled (and ate) shrimp on the beach? Man oh man, good stuff.

I've actually boiled shrimp using seawater ... but I don't think I would on the Texas coast.
