There's some great fishing in the area.

Mild threadjack: @SpeedTchr , are you familiar with Charlie Robison's song "Indianola"?

I would love to do that sail. Maybe I could serve as crew for the trip? :)

I was not until you posted this. Had never actually heard of Charlie Robison. Interesting song!

His "Wedding Song" with Natalie Maines is a great showcase for that chick's pipes. Other faves of mine from him are "Desperate Times" and "My Hometown".

It's an awfully small boat, but I'm game if you are!

It is small, but at least it has a cabin. More than the 19-foot Coronado 15 sailboat that my family had when I was a teenager. I haven't been sailing in a long time now, but I have always loved the ocean and that race does appeal to me.

Now that the participants are closing in on the finish, lots of videos are popping up on Facebook. My favorite so far comes from one of the main organizers of the event. In it, he and his wife are beating on a port tack and his wife is lolling around on the lee side of the cockpit. A stray gust pops 'em pretty good and they come close to capsizing ... two middle-aged white people can move pretty quickly when the chips are down. Wifey is on the windward side of the cockpit in their next video.

My favorite participants are this guy with his two teenage daughters from Milwaukee who did the whole thing in a 15-foot daysailer.

And for you Indianola types ... some band (HiWay 316) is playing at the Indianola Marina tomorrow night and is inviting all the participants. If I didn't have kids' obligations tomorrow, I'd be headed the hell down there right now.

ON EDIT: Just found the band on YouTube. So maybe I wouldn't head down there to see/hear 'em.

Where did you find any videos of Hwy 316? I think it's a hyper-local band named after the highway that runs along the waterfront.
