You can make a nice living doing pretty much closings and wills.

Well, hell then. Why would anyone choose the miserable alternative (70-hour work weeks and unbearable stress)?

You are asking that of a board of people who largely chose those same things for $20K/year.

How come you never hear anyone proclaiming he/she is getting into or entering the rat race?

Some people would rather have 3 or 4 European vacations a year rather than one. Some people can handle the stress.

That's more or less the deal with our real estate attorney, whose firm consists of him and his wife as office manager. They're not wealthy, but they've built up a nice clientele over the years and certainly don't have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. Nor are they working horribly long hours.

My dad started out handling workers' comp cases while working for a firm. Before my siblings and I got too old he went on his own and did more closings and wills. Was pretty cool having him at most of my games in high school and college.

Posters with long memories will recall me proclaiming it plenty.

Yes, but they get paid that $20K a year just to watch games.
