BTW, is their any doubt this guy came to Washington intending to kill the president, and ended up settling for a softer target that presented itself to him?

People who hate Trump don't drive halfway across the country, living out of their van for three months, while hanging at the local YMCA to shoot Steve Scalise.

I know there isn't evidence to back what I'm saying yet, but it doesn't make sense that this was his plan.

The republicans have been practicing at the field next to the Y for a couple of months. He could have shot them any day, but he waited until their final practice -- his final opportunity to have such a soft target -- to do so.

The only flaw in his plan was that since Scalise was at practice that day, so was his armed security.

And also guns that put them in the position in the first place.

Burying the lede a bit there, no?

Your first mistake is thinking he had a plan at all.

It is absolutely possible that he wanted Trump, but his history of online rage was frequently directed at Congress.

I'm not sure that anybody has seriously advocated for a well-trained professional police force to not have guns.

So, he hung out every day at a YMCA to plan not for a shooting right across the street, but for a shooting 10 miles away where the president lives?

The genie is out of the bottle Dick. There are 300 million guns in the hands of Americans, and a couple hundred in @Inky_Wretch's hands alone.

Even if you outlawed gun ownership tomorrow, you're not getting rid of those guns. You'd just be creating more sitting ducks.

These guys are alive because of armed security. To suggest that the average citizen should be unable to defend themselves, while our government leaders, CEO's, and Hollywood celebrities travel with armed security is disgusting, and creates two classes of citizens.

Put away the broad brush, champ. And this makes you sound like you're rooting for more violence.

What happened yesterday was awful. Horrifying. An act committed by a mad man.

Crap like this just fans the flames of fringe nuts. Both sides have many.

Tamping down the rhetoric and putting away the broad brush would be good for everyone. Starting with the guy occupying the office with the curved walls.

Trump said the right things yesterday. Had the right tone. But, as usual, he couldn't even keep it together for 24 hours.
