Now that Mike Fatcessa is just about done, MikeFranceser won't be as good. May have to start following Trump On Baseball.

They weren't answers. Your answer was, essentially, "Because it's what happened."

There is no talismanic quality to ERA. There is no reason that in the 19th century they couldn't have settled upon WHIP or slugging percentage against or K/BB as the go-to pitching performance measure. They just didn't.

To be fair, ERA is sort of a projection too. It projects how many runs a pitcher would have given up if 1) he had pitched nine innings, and b) his shortstop had made two outs instead of throwing two balls into the dugout.

So, how many times are you going to tell the same lie about my answer and hope people accept it as true?

Those are all fine statistics as well. They measure what happened, not what somebody thinks might have happened if the circumstances were changed.

Why is "what happened" more important as a measure of pitcher performance?

We know what happened. We do our best to project what might have happened under different circumstances.

Of course, this is all a distraction from the original point, that your constant whining about Arrieta is all about trolling, which is proven by the fact that you all but ignored the struggles by Lester and many other Cubs until I brought them into the discussion.

The Cubs are 33-33. Last year after 66 games, they were 46-20. You were mostly ignoring all the other issues that went into their diminished performance because you are often more interested in finding pissing matches than you are in genuine discussions.

So what's next? You're going to tell us that the 33-33 record doesn't matter, either, due to the underlying numbers?

Lester has been part of the problem, though many of the metrics you mentioned give reason for hope that he can improve the rest of the way. The strikeout rate has remained stable, which is a big part of why his FIP doesn't look as bad as his ERA.

Why would I post about Lester's "struggles" when Lester isn't struggling?

Because he is struggling. The other statistics suggest it may not last, but the results are clearly diminished from last year.

And you keep trying to contain this to Lester when that was just one example. You largely ignored the Cubs' struggles as a team until this little bit of bullshit started. You just went on and on about Arrieta as the entire team fell well behind last year's pace.

But hey, if Lester pitches well the rest of the way and next year, then maybe you have a point about him. Why next year? Because I'm going to apply the same standards you are applying in the Arrieta discussion.

Of course, none of this changes initial point regarding your Arrieta fixation and its basis in your desire to troll.

There is no projection based on if he pitched nine innings. ERA is just a state of what happened presented over a relevant and commonly understood unit. The rules about errors is a projection, but if you are bothered by them, it is easy to find the alternative.

You're being silly. None of those other stats you cite contain as much information as ERA.

What inning did Arrieta taken out in tonight?
