That's a pretty unusual but effective defense for witness tampering. "I was only stating what the witness wanted anyway."

 

bullshit. He's trying to frame the story in the court of public opinion by saying that Comey is a liar.

 

Truth according to who? Trump? We have a mountain of exaggerations and out right lies just in the five months he's been in office. He used the threat of nonexistent tapes to garner favorable testimony. If that is not illegal witness tampering it's sure as hell disturbing for a president to do. And what "truth" did Trump want Comey to give? That Trump wasn't under investigation? Ultimately that wasn't what Comey was testifying to. Trump is lumbering around this process with the finesse and grace of a frat boy leaving a bar at 2 a.m. during Spring Break. He hasn't a clue when to keep his mouth shut and his insistence of acting like a mafia don with the whole "I hope you tell the truth" with the subtext of I hope your car doesn't explode on the way home is going to get him in trouble if it hasn't already. But please keep defending the guy you're not defending.

 

He just took credit for a genius plan to ensure Comey testified truthfully.

Kind of undercuts his ability to call Comey a liar.

Well, I didn't really "shrug it off." I don't subscribe, and it won't let me read it.

That being said, knowing what I know (and suspect), had I read it, I probably WOULD have shrugged it off.

 

I laughed out loud.

 

It was a veiled threat, though. And you know that.
