Going to the drive-in movie

We took the kids the other night to the drive-in movie theater. Stayed for "Cars 3," but everyone was too tired to stay there for "Wonder Woman," although I would have liked to have seen it.

We used to go when I was a kid, though it wasn't a novelty back then. It was just kind of a way you went to see movies.

I can't recommend it highly enough, though. I hope these don't go away like baseball and rock 'n' roll, because it was a blast to pile into the back of the hatch (we'll bring camping chairs next time) and watch under the stars. Even fun to eat the shitty chili dogs, onion rings, and soggy French fries from the concession stand.

I love how everyone starts honking their horn once they feel it's dark enough to start the movie.

 

Born in 1970, and I have never been to a drive-in movie.

 

Never went to one, even though I pretty much could have walked to one as a teenager. Think they showed a lot of pornos back then.

There is one nearby that I want to go to. Seems everytime they have a movie I want to see, the second movie I don't want to see.

They do have something called Retro Tuesdays, where they show a couple old movies. This week it's Easy Rider and The Wild One. That could be fun. And Back to the Future trilogy in August.

 

How far from where you live?

Went to one while on vacation once. I suppose it wouldn't be a terrible way to see a movie with a baby, but I think I'd have to drive at least an hour to find one.

 

About 35-40 minutes, I think. There's one in Valparaiso.

 

The first movie I saw at the drive-in was Rocky at Los Altos Drive-in. I was 5.

 

If you take a date to a drive-in, try not to let your car's battery die. Kinda ruins any mood you were working toward.

 

So the listed showtime for the movie is "when it gets dark"?

 

There was one in Atco in South Jersey when I was a kid, but we never went.
Kind of a little far to go to a movie. Not really far at all, but there were a lot of theaters much closer to home.

I don't think I have one within driving distance now. The old one outside of town where my office is finally being slated for development.
