Best film reboot

There's plenty to choose from.

Personally, I can't wait for War for the Planet of the Apes, and that franchise is hands-down the best of some really good reboots (like Star Trek), and I say that as someone who didn't like the Heston-McDowall films all that much, and hated the Mark Wahlberg reboot.

I've said it before, but Andy Serkis should've gotten at least one nomination for Best Actor for his work as Caesar.

First one that sprung to mind: True Grit.

Cronenberg's "The Fly" reboot was pretty great.

 

I can't believe I forgot about the Nolan Batman films.

Still not sure they're better than the new "Apes," though. I guess the new one will determine that.

 

Clarification question: Was just Batman Begins a reboot or were all three considered reboots? Or is the whole trilogy considered one reboot? To me, there is one reboot (Batman Begins) and two sequels to that reboot. If that makes any sense. Probably doesn't.

Same question about the Apes movies.

 

Casino Royale was a superior reboot.

 

I used "reboot" in the "restart" sense. As in "Nolan rebooted the Batman franchise," thus Batman Begins rebooted the source material, but The Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises are part of the rebooted franchise.

Same with the Apes movies.

Individual movies like True Grit or The Fly are remade, not rebooted.

 

I think I've only seen the James Franco one, but aren't these Planet of the Apes movies more like prequels?

 

The Franco one was essentially a remake of one of the earlier McDowall ones, which was a prequel, but it's a reimagining of the whole story arc.
