    It's become common over the years for people who moved to Florida from the Northeast or Midwest early in life to retire and/or own second homes in western North Carolina or eastern Tennessee because of the mountain scenery, cooler weather and less congested conditions. The natives have come up with several nicknames for such transplants.

    If you try to fit in and they like you, they'll call you a "halfback" -- as in, you've moved halfway back to your original home up north.

    But if you don't try to fit in and they don't like you, you'll probably be known as a "Floridiot," which requires no explanation.
