This describes my old distance running coach: youth and college in New England; teaching career in Florida; winter break, summer vacation and eventual retirement outside Brevard, N.C.

Hell, I love the area and would move there too.

Off thread topic a bit, but that Brevard area is beautiful with the nearby mountains and waterfalls. There are a few upscale housing developments southeast of town and my conservative estimate is that 80 percent of the people there are retirees from either Florida or the Atlanta area. I would retire to western N.C. in a nanosecond, but the wife has different ideas.

I've spent a ton of time in the area, centered on Brevard College and the Pisgah National Forest, thanks to that aforementioned coach and my own high school coaching career that led to yearly weeklong attendance at the summer running camp there -- also made up primarily of Florida HS cross country teams looking to train on hills for once.

Reminds me of when I moved to Mississippi and our paper's general manager explained the difference between a Yankee and a God Damn Yankee.
A Yankee, he said, was a person from up North who came to visit.
A God Damn Yankee was a person from up North who decided to come and live here.
