Kim Jung must have thought those he executed were going to attack him, so executing them was his deterrent.

I have a friend dating a South Korean woman who moved to this country about 10 years ago. She seems very well-read and stays informed. She said many South Koreans believe that no matter how many times Kim Il Fatboy preens and postures, China and Russia will, in the end, make sure he doesn't do anything THAT stupid because they've had enough of a taste of capitalism mixed with a sprinkling of corruption to know that making money in a global economy beats the hell out of some Utopian vision that will never come to pass as long as there's this thing called human nature ("I want more than the other guy, so I'm either going to out-work him or just steal it.")
Nuclear wars are bad for business. Therefore, her theory goes, Putin and Xi will keep the leash on North Korea -- not that they mind a 5-2, 210-pound dweeb tweaking Uncle Sam's nose.

Seems like a very sound analysis to me. There's also the large DPRK army whose generals know they'll be sure to die in a war before the fat kid does.

But the HOF thread would be epic.

Using a question mark is ill-advised.

The salary cap debates would be epic, and lead to many executions. But probably not of @outofplace. :D

And flame wars would rely heavily on "Go die in a firing squad."

My impression based on what I've read is that it's still very much an open question how much influence anyone, including Russia and China, have over what North Korea does. China, as their largest trading partner, reasonably should have lots of influence. But there's not much evidence that NK leadership has much concern over economic issues.
Basically, not necessarily a great assumption that Russia and China's leash actually exerts control.
    Hope it does. But ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The political board is shut down. The piss wars never stopped until they were stopped.

On non-politics, a North Korean desert may not be climate proper. A skateboard park, yes.

I figure the post nuclear-apocolyptic nightmare world will consist of only cockroaches, Keith Richards and oop.

Although Keith might voluntarily off himself after being berated for the umpteenth time about the point that sailed over his head and his failure at reading comprehension.
