When people expect you to answer work email when you're on vacation. The morning of day one back from vacation is for catching up on the emails you missed while on vacation. I'm not solving cancer. My job is not directly affecting anyone's income or stock price. Yes, I do read emails every few days while on vacation bc I like to keep abreast of things and not be blindsided by the unexpected when I come back into work. But detailed responses? You will get that when I return. If something is uber important, text me.

Agree with everything except the text. Only head varsity coaches have my cell number, but if it's that important, call the paper.

We haven't had anyone at our paper who could cover a game or even write a sports story in the nine years I've been here. Last week was the closest thing I've ever had to a vacation, in that I "only" had to write two American Legion baseball stories.

And don't get me started on the Scoreboard. It just doesn't get in (because nobody wants to learn how to use things such as style sheets and right tabs).

It's a very simple issue: If you don't want me to take vacation, don't give me vacation time.

When the SEC alphabetizes Mississippi in the Os (as in Ole Miss) and thus behind Mississippi State. Offends my ADD sensibilities.

I used to have a boss who would ask why we were requesting time off. She was doing it to see how flexible we were with those dates but I always wanted to tell her it doesn't matter why. I've earned the time. I could be sitting home watching TV in my underwear while eating Cheetos and it doesn't mean I'm giving up the time because a co-worker wants to go to London that same week.

I was always taught, with rare exception (UCLA), to spell out first reference. Yet, there are the lazy inbreds at the AP writing TCU, LSU and SMU first reference. Grr.

I think LSU is certainly one of the exceptions.

TCU & SMU also qualify. And our style was always to refer to the university at Oxford as Ole Miss on first reference. Fact is, their fans get pissy if you refer to it any other way.

It bugged me when those Florida schools came in with the initial process. USF is the University of San Francisco. South Florida is South Florida. UCF, I wasted a bunch of time one day in the AP college football log putting it in the C list rather than they U list. I think UNLV is all right. East Coast bias.

I agree, but I'd at least be willing to listen to a debate about those two. If I see Louisiana State written out it takes me a second to realize it's LSU and not some Sun Belt team trying to rebrand.

TCU & SMU intentionally distanced themselves from their previous monikers. They want nothing to do with the words "Christian" or "Methodist" now. Hurts their brand, or some such nonsense. I would add that cheating like mofos in athletics somewhat damages the brand, too.

Apparently the same marketing people who talked to Kentucky Fried Chicken talked to TCU and SMU.

The chicken is the best thing about "KFC" yet they took it out of the name.
