Greencastle might be better for that, actually.

I concur. My sisters live in Millersville, halfway between Annapolis and Baltimore. They live in a great community with plenty of access to the water and to the cities. They can go to a Ravens or Orioles game and be there in less than 30 minutes. Sister used to have a condo in OC, and while it was fun to visit, it's also seedy as hell. My 21-year-old niece got her ass grabbed last week right on the street. Lot of drunks, druggies and idiots. But there are plenty of nice towns in the burbs around Baltimore. I just spent a few days there visiting them. Had a great time.

Parts of Maryland are very nice. Parts really suck. But even living in Hagerstown there were some good things. We lived in a really cool old stone house, built in colonial times. It was an hour to Camden Yards and we were members of the aquarium. Going to minor league games in Frederick was fun.

But man, Hagerstown itself is depressing. The lack of other educated, professional 30-somethings with kids made it a very lonely place. And it was difficult to go to any public place without being engulfed in a cloud of cigarette smoke.

Was in OC last month for the first time in 7 years and it's much cleaner and less seedy than it used to be. There are now some very good restaurants and bars that aren't just crappy buffets and. Seacrets. BUT we did go tot he boardwalk and no matter how clean the city is, the people are still Dundalky and Glen Burnie ... but it is better than the jersey shore and much cheaper than outer banks, Hilton head and the Hamptons. Delaware and MD beaches still represent middle class summer vacations.

Easton and St Michaels are really nice, more good eating and drinking. Lots of money helps and a boat is better. Annapolis is a great town. Was in Fells Point recently for the first time in years and it too is cleaner and less gritty. College Park and parts of Hyattsville are improving but is still surrounded by crime and crap.

But most of Baltimore is post Apocalyptic. PG is Baltimore with trees and an over priced convention center, casino and the worst NFL stadium.

    That seems a little harsh.
