It is notable that the people and institutions Trump most resents are also the ones he can't quit seeking approval from. The Times is fake news, but when he's feeling blue, he cries on Maggie Habermas's shoulder. He supposedly resents Europe, but Macron, the very image of the caricature of the snooty Frenchman, has Trump eating out of his hand.
