In all seriousness, the joking about this does reflect the "new normal" that reduces the impact of this issue and allows deflection by the Trump team.
Our country needs to wake up and treat it with the seriousness it requires.

Russia was screwing with our election and the winner admits his team member met with Russia with the intent of colluding with them to win. If this happened even 10 years ago, that would be considered at least de facto treason against our country.

Come on citizens, wake up!! We can't be so dulled to it that we are willing to overlook this, right?

Susan Collins says no on motion to proceed with latest Trumpcare effort. One more no and it's DOA, probably for the last time.

Russians don't instinctively smile, either. For years it has been stereotypically mistaken as "See how miserable they are!!" But really, they just don't "fake smile" like Americans are wont to do (as if they are trying to sell you something).

For anyone who watches The Americans: Remember how Elizabeth was put off by the Mary Kay saleslady who dropped by their house and was so full of smiles and friendly and flattering toward Elizabeth and Paige? That's what I mean.

Russians generally have not had anything to smile about. If my life was historically that miserable, I wouldn't smile, either.

Any way you parse it, your average Russian has lived a shitty life for hundreds of years.

While the quality of Russian life might be dismal, apparently its span is phenomenal!

I thought I saw Rand Paul said no, and there was someone else as well.

Paul and Collins are two hard nos. Remains to be seen if there is one more to keep it off the floor.
