    Nothing so clearly indicates the hubris of American political culture than the bipartisan belief of every administration since 1960 that if the US just tries hard enough, it can bring peace to the Middle East.

    Actually, I'd say he has much less chance. For one, he's a clueless, bungling dip. For another, his dad was tight with Benjamin Netanyahu -- Netanyahu slept in Jared Kushner's bed when he stayed over their house, supposedly! The Palestinians rightfully don't think Jared Kushner is an impartial mediator. When Kushner went over there a few weeks ago, he first went to Israel and the optics were horrible. Netanyahu greeted him publicly like HIS GUY had arrived. Then Kushner went to see Abbas and read off a list of Netanyahu's demands, leading to the Palestinians to tell him to take a hike.

    Maybe the whole thing is intractable, but if anyone stands a chance at finding any common ground, it isn't someone who is so tied to one side and aligns himself with them.
