Which is worse? Scheduled days off for guys like Harper or yanking three or four starters in a seven-run game like Mike Matheny did last night? When the Cardinals had a shot to rally, they had to do it with three starters out of the game and an empty bench.

I get that, but I'm really asking. I think sometimes managers give up on games far too early.

There was some discussion about that in Chicago after the debacle right before the All-Star break. Maddon let a relief pitcher bat in the fourth inning, and Hub Arkush, very much an NFL guy, asked Len Kasper, the announcer about it, on a talk radio show here. Kasper went ballistic.

I think we found the root of the problem.

EDIT: For clarity's sake, I'm joking here.

The Cardinals had two on in the eighth and had to use Wainwright as a pinch hitter. Somehow he drew a walk to bring up the leadoff spot, but Matt Carpenter was long gone from the game by then.

I disagree. I think the wear and tear of playing everyday through the hot summer will wear anybody down. Although not as physically demanding as other sports they do play through a lot of nagging injuries that I think a day here and there off can help.

Blue was always the sarcasm font.

What can be the "I'm joking" font?

If you need font, the joke or sarcasm is ineffective.

Comic Sans? (Which sadly doesn't actually look like an option. What is this place, communist North Korea?)

Fair enough. But to take a guy of Harper's caliber out of a game early in the season seems to undercut the importance of certain games. They have a huge lead now, so I guess it's less of an issue. But what if they were in a tight race? Would he still be getting scheduled days off?
