I always thought that opening scene was what made Jaws work. The shark is a hell of a lot scarier before you see it than after you get a good look.

The story I heard about Jaws was that the larges mechanical sharks took a lot longer to build than anticipated and they started the movie without it being ready. It was genius not to reveal the Shark until late into the movie, but was it inadvertent genius?

"Dunkirk" this weekend. A cinematic beauty with a tense, foreboding air throughout. Enjoyable, but with the thick english accents, missed big chunks of dialogue. Fascinating story, wouldn't call movie great though.

  8. Finally saw "The Nice Guys"
I've had sitting on top of the TV stand for probably close to 2 months.
I was an enjoyable 2 hours. Not great, by any stretch, but entertaining. Good role for Gosling.
I would shag 63-year-old Kim Bassinger with NO hesitation.

I pulled it out again over the weekend, too. Can't believe it's over 40 years old.

I really want to go cage diving.

I would love to do a cage dive with some big shark species.
I have, as many of you all probably have, been free diving on reefs with sharks, but those are all small reef sharks.
My experience has been mainly with blacktips, and they only get about 5 feet.

Still scared the crap out of me the first time I was in the water with them.

Watched The Bad News Bears with my 9-year-old daughter last night. She loved it, thought it was hysterical. And this is from a kid who doesn't really like baseball and quit t-ball after a month bc it was so boring.
