Obama never once got ahead of his party's base on LGBTQ issues, and he's regarded as progressive on these rights. He's not looked down on for not having led. He's celebrated.

So, given this, why would we criticize Trump, who is actually out front of his party's base. He's taken more political risk on the issues than Obama or Clinton ever did.

Obama and Clinton didn't give two fucks about gays or the transgendered. They cared about politics and about winning elections.

Even Obama's gay marriage support came not only when the base had moved, but when his Silicon Valley fund raising for the 2012 campaign was threatened.

 

We have a winner.
