Mostly I get the impression that Brittany is sick of Buddy Stephens. The kids are incredibly frustrating but she genuinely cares about them. Buddy doesn't give a shit about any of them, and that really seems to be bothering her. (As Ex points out, this could also be largely a product of the editing.)

I finished the second season a few days ago and this is what stuck out to me. As much as he wanted us to believe he had in the early episodes, Buddy Stephens has not changed an inch. He started out the season happy and supportive, doing push ups every time he swears and telling his players to go out and have fun. He finishes it by yelling non-stop at them, berating them and chasing off one of his best assistant coaches because of some on-field bullshit.

Stephens is the ultimate big fish in a small pond who wants to pretend his pond is bigger. He's a big deal in JUCO football in Mississippi, and he can't help but lord over anyone in that little sphere. It is kind of sad.

Last I checked the player doesn't tend to have the ultimate decision on what position he plays. He may be a dumbass about his QB abilities ... but a lot of guys who get paid a lot money to assess those are/were dumbasses, too.

I'll be interested to see where all these characters are 10 of 15 years from now. Thinking back to the football team from my JUCO days:

Shaun Hill didn't have D-I offers out of high school. He thought he'd wind up punting at Maryland. Spent 11 years in the NFL.

An assistant coach and a fairly high profile defensive lineman both wound up in prison on drug-related charges. Separate incidents.

One of my good friends, a local kid who played wide receiver, switched to track and ran at a D-I school where he now works on the athletic department.

A linebacker who came up in a pretty rough situation and was at JUCO because of his test scores, knocked up a girl from my hometown. They didn't stay together, but he's a good dad. Played linebacker in the Big 12 and got a degree. He's now the athletic director at a private high school.

Do they get new uniforms and helmets each week or am I imagining it?

Just finished season 2. Great TV.

No spoilers, but there's a good lesson here: If you host a documentary crew and treat them like shit -- even kicking at the lens of the camera at one point -- you will pay for it.

Yeah, they've worn a different one every week (haven't gone through the episodes to see if they've ever worn one style twice). That really doesn't surprise me anymore with college football teams, even if this one is a junior college team.

Because 18 and 19 year-old kids can't be expected on their own to bring a pen and notebook to class? Does it mean she cares because she hands out pens and makes sure they show up for class?

Not sure what your point is. Have you watched the show? No, they apparently can't be expected to do it on their own, because they don't. She's doing everything she can for those guys when any reasonable person would want to strangle them. One of the players says it in the finale -- she's a supportive mother figure for a lot of guys who have never had anything close to that in their lives.

Yeah I've watched the show. Point is, does she care because she has to bring pencils for kids, but the coach doesn't care because he doesn't bring them pencils?
