Nice article summing up recent events. Love the lede graph.

"When President Trump is feeling put-upon, he retreats to his happy place: standing before a crowd of enthusiastic supporters who will cheer wildly for him and allow him to feel as though it’s still the 2016 campaign. So last night he went to West Virginia so that he could feel the love and be able to dismiss the widening and deepening investigation as nothing more than a witch hunt. But if it’s a witch hunt, there are an awful lot of people around the president who just happen to be wearing pointy hats."

Trump's win was foretold by W (as in, How could Blue State men who work with their hands vote for that poncy schoolboy?) Yeah, he's one of them. Until he tried to take away entitlements, and the electorate magically came together.

Coming out of the Gulf War, SNL ran a political sketch called "Decision '92: The race not to be the guy who loses to Bush." Actors played various potential Democratic candidates in a debate setting, each one explaining why they should not be the candidate. Tipper Gore (Victoria Jackson) attended in place of Al because he was "busy taking our kids to a gay porno theater."

There was legitimate reason to believe Bush would cruise to re-election. We know how that turned out.

I have a lot of left-leaning friends who think some Trump revelation will eventually force other GOP politicians to turn their backs on him. I don't think it's that easy. Everything being alleged now can be traced back to before the election, when many of them openly supported him. It's a tough thing to credibly walk back.

Democrats need to be focused on the things that could actually change the election -- voting laws, voter turnout, voter registration, recruitment of candidates. I still think it's just as likely they blow the opportunity than it is Trump self-implodes.

Hillary concentrated almost 100 percent on the message that, "Trump is offensive to coastal liberal sensibilities!" from the Convention on through the finish line.

That worked out well for her.

Absolutely 100% true. Trump consistently outperformed his final poll numbers throughout the process. People were ashamed to admit they supported him, but they turned out and voted for him.

Is that what it was, or did the polling companies mis-calculate the likely voter demographics when weighting responses?
