You are one of the most annoying people I've ever encountered through any medium in my entire life.

Your act -- Dunning-Kruger made flesh -- is old. @Starman at his worst is a more intellectually honest poster. He at least is intelligent enough to perceive the boundaries of the dispute.

I see Conversation Dingleberry made his scent known again.

Was a good discussion until then, though.

It is an issue of priorities, though.
Scale and cost are assessed when setting public priorities.
A problem that affects a larger population but that has a declining trend on which a lot of public resources are already expended might be considered a lesser priority for additional resources than a problem that affects a smaller population but has an increasing trend and upon which limited resources are currently expended.

All problems cannot be treated equally because there is not a bottomless well of resources.
Do want to fix the highways or the drinking water systems? Because you might not be able to afford to fix both.

Short of making cigarettes illegal, what's left to do? There isn't a person in America who doesn't know they're bad for you. Smoking cessation programs are a part of every health plan. And nobody is exactly dropping dead from a cigarette -- it's a decades-long process.

Heroin is an immediate, urgent and new problem. Education about it is extremely lacking.

Opiate addiction has harsh and immediate (relative to cigs) effects, so when the question by the OP is presented as "which is the real crisis?" well, both are, but one is certainly more pressing.

People can care about two troubling issues at the same time.

Ironically, this thread has left multiple posters wishing for the sweet release of a heroin overdose.

Opioids and cigarettes. Like the difference between playing in traffic and regularly driving 25 miles per hour over the speed limit. One is sure as shit gonna kill ya quicker, though you might take some others out too with the latter decision.

I still smoke an occasional cigarette. Luckily I've never gotten hooked on pain meds or ever had anyone offer me the horse. Know some who've gone down that road and the damage done is unbelievable

You really should read more carefully before posting next time. Dickie questioned the seriousness of the threat of second-hand smoke. I presented evidence from the American Cancer Society showing that he didn't know what he was talking about. Then he ran away.

But it is nice to see my stalkers come out to play. At least LTL followed up his usual foolishness by contributing to the discussion, which is more than I can say for some others.

So you're admitting defeat on second-hand fat?
