Do we not have a running 2017 golf thread?

But the Tour had said it was willing to move, because the PGA in May opens up the FedExCup for August and a before-NFL finish. I don't think the PGA would ever force the PGA Tour's hand on anything; I think the PGA and USGA are relatively lacking in the spine department.

The FedEx Cup has lasted for 11 years. Each tournament has been fully title sponsored each year. The percentage of eligible players who have entered each tournament is 98 percent so with the exception of Tiger, Phil or Rory skipping the first event, every star has played almost every event, every year. That doesn't happen if no one gives a shit.
Never assume because you don't care, no one does.
FedEx Cup winner have included: Tiger, Vijay, Furyk, Rory, Stenson, Jordan. All Hall of Famers now, or in the future. Yeah, Horschel and Haas won but every now and then a wild-card team wins a pro sports title or a 1985 Villanova team wins the NCAAs.

Hondo/playthrough: I don't disagree with that train of thought, either, and I understand why logistically the points system is in place. Just stop calling it a playoff then.

The last seven years on an arbitrary date in May (the 20th) at JFK (closest I could find quickly):
    Low temp 55, high 72
    56, 65
    55, 78
    57, 72
    55, 79
    54, 69
    49, 75
If nothing else, players practicing in the morning won't be wearing shorts.

If you polled 20 golf fans they couldn't tell you who won last year's FedEx Cup. Bottom line is the general public stops giving a damn about golf the second NFL camp starts. I don't care how they brand it, promote it or sponsor it. Golf's something to watch on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon until football returns. I've considered the PGA the official end of summer for years. Shortly after the final putt drops you shift focus to football and the evenings start getting cooler in the northeast.

This is not exactly true. Once every two years, the Ryder Cup, held in late September, holds the golf public's attention as much or more than any major. The Presidents' Cup, on the other hand...

Do we know when in May? Have they set a date? Because there is a huge difference between May 1 and May 20th up here.

If I had to guess, it would be mid-May, maybe the weekend before Memorial Day.

Also, the BMW Championship in Europe has already announced it's moving to September, so there won't be a conflict with the new schedule.

That's like in the Byron Nelson-Colonial time frame now, right? Those are pretty big Tour stalwarts to rearrange.

Both have lost a bit of their luster in recent years, truth be told. There is going to have to be a lot of moving around done to accommodate the move. Some tournaments are going to get shifted to the fall portion of the wraparound schedule.
