Lots of reasons, as laid out in the Bowden piece.

Trump gets a folder full of positive news about himself twice a day

Reminder that the man is mentally ill. He suffers from narcissistic personality disorder, which severely impairs his judgment.

And Republicans are OK with that, as far as I can tell, because they are still mad that 25 years ago, they couldn't get a popular and competent president removed for the perjury they spent five years and tons of taxpayer money to try to fish out.

That was the thing. He made it public that atomic bombs were going to fall so that they wouldn't have to. I don't think Trump is thinking that strategically.

At the time Truman said that, we had like one bomb left. It was part bluff. Would've taken time, maybe months, to build more. But combined with Soviet Union declaring war on Japan, Hirohito decided it was all too much.

At some point, I would hope a group of sane Congresspeople or Cabinet members would band together and say, "Look, guy from TV, this has gone far enough. We will worry about the Constitutional implications tomorrow. As of tonight, you are no longer in charge."

Were the target of laws specifically designed to stop a percentage of them from voting, resulting in the win in Wisconsin.

But at least those used to be used in the service of electing sane, competent men.

Step 1: Take phone and hide it. Wait for Trump to get the urge to Tweet.
Step 2: While waiting, draft 25th Amendment letter.
Step 3: When Trump finally decides he needs to get his Tweet fix, he will begin to look all over the White House (or Mira Largo) for his phone. During this time, send letter to Congress
Step 4: Trump declared not to be president by incapacitation. His phone still missing, he doesn't know. He also doesn't get messages from his inner circle.
    Step 5: Pray.
    Step 6: ???
    Step 7: Profit.

Not months. Maybe two, three weeks. They built 120 of the Nagasaki model over the next two years.

I feel like today's shenanigans - which he'll eventually walk back while blaming the "fake news" - has to have a lot of powerful people thinking, "Yeah. This shit can't go on."
